BEHOLD! Gnombie 2! A while back I created the first gnombie and it had a TON of positive reaction. Problem was, I hated making it. The gnomes I bought to do this with were already painted and had a clear coat. I couldn’t find blank ones that I like the shape of, actually couldn’t find blank ones at all. So I had to paint layers and layers over that, then each color I put on it had to have two or three layers, then there are a whole bunch of crevices to get into, and finally putting the black inking detail on was one giant BITCH. It just takes WAAAAYYY too much time. I can’t find that happy medium where I can make these a good price for the customer AND make it worth it to me for all the time and supplies put into it. And don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the end result too. It’s just that the road to that end result is frustrating.  Aaaanyway, I did the first one, sold it, started the next one, then quit. I didn’t want to do the other one AT ALL. So he sat in my apartment for months. Then the other day I said SCREW IT, I’m finishing this stupid thing. With no rhyme or reason for the decision. It was just his time. I definitely tried some new things with highlighting colors on this one and as you can tell by all his shiny glory, he got a clear coat (He’s really not THAT shiny, but the light source was kicking on these photos). But yeah, I finally found a clear coat that doesn’t melt my ink details. Oh and for height reference he’s 13.5 inches tall. Well, his head stops at about 8.5, the rest is his hat. I freekin love the way this turned out, and I hope you do too! Hopefully sometime in the future I can find a good base sculpture for these guys the makes it less time consuming and more affordable so I can make a whole mess of these doods. Thanks for tuning in and comeback soon for more ghoulishly great eye candy.

Awesomely yours,

The Monster King

I know a lot of you have been waiting to see some zombie nutcrackers this year. Sorry for the uneventfulness of it all in 2010. Above you will see some BRAND NEW zombie nutcrackers that were custom ordered in October of this year. The first two are 7.5 inch while the last two are a whole foot tall!

Now I have some other stuff lined up and did not plan on doing anymore this year, but if you are really serious about getting one you can email me (stephen@monsterkingproductions.com). I have two 12 inch blank nutcrackers that are ready for your custom order. They are $70.00 a piece($7.00 shipping). These are hand painted and come in the colors of your choice. If more than two people order, I’ll try to get some more. But I can only promise a maximum of getting 4 done before X-mas. Until next time, stay scary.

Hey gang! Sorry no blog updates in a while. But here’s a short story on a piece I just finished. This was commissioned from a couple of guys that worked at the haunted house I did t-shirts for. They wanted to get a card to thank Jenni, the sweet gal that put a lot of her time into both haunted attractions 13 Feet Under and St. Lucifer’s Haunted Asylum. Well they wanted me to make an over sized illustration for the front of said card. In the end the idea was to depict Jenni as a puppet master with the characters that the two men portrayed at the haunt dangling from the puppet strings. It turned out waaayy more wicked that I had originally planned. THANKS GUYS! I’m working on another custom pic for a couple that worked there as well. Should be up soon! Later ghouls!

AT LAST!!! I can now reveal the t-shirt designs I made for Saint Lucifer’s Haunted Asylum and 13 Feet Under. It’s been a long process, but I think my art was a perfect match for these haunted attractions. The final prints were just unleashed to the public this weekend and from what I hear, they’re going over really well! We went over many designs and a few changes to the ones that made it (you can see the original “RED” version if the 13 Feet Under shirt at the end of the slideshow) but these are the FINAL versions of each. Some alterations were made when the shirts were printed, but the guys over at Flint City T-shirts worked with me closely to match my original illustrations as best they could. I also included the logo I designed for 13 Feet Under haunt. Big thanks to Jenni and Kris for reaching out to an independent artist on this job. These shirts won’t be available for long, so if you’re anywhere near the Grand Blanc/Flint, MI area be sure to nab one up! Here’s some shots of the zombie Spiderman Mighty Mugg I was recently commissioned to paint. Originally a Star Wars Mighty Mugg figure, I primed and painted a comic book nightmare right over the top. I think it was only about 6 inches tall. So while it might seem that the details are a bit funky, keep in mind that this thing is freekin SMALL. I tried to do my own take on the character as there is a zombie Spiderman in the comic series Marvel Zombies. Hope the person that’s getting this for a gift digs it, and I hope you do to! That’s gonna do it on commissions for a few weeks. I have a few events coming up and need to build some good eye candy for the table. Mmmmm eyes….made of candy…..nom nom nom.

Here’s a follow up piece to the zombie sheep spinning wheel I was recently commissioned to paint (check the earlier blog post if you missed it). As soon as I was done with the wheel I was asked to produce a similarly themed bag to go with it. Well, a few other things got in the way but I was able to finally sit down with it this week and finish it. I will tell you, it’s hard to paint something with the body structure of a cotton ball. But I gave it a shot and I’m super pleased with the results. Hope you like it and I hope Marj does too!

A while back I ran a one night only Facebook contest in which the winners would get “monster-ized” into an illustrated beast of their choosing. Contestants entered by throwing up an “I heart(the heart was an illustrated monster heart) monsterkingproductions.com” pic as their default pic for the night. All who entered had their name written down and 2 winners were picked at random. Video was taken of the name drawing to prove I was up to no funny business. Well it surely was at random because one winner was one of my best friends and the other was a complete stranger (to me at least). Scott Hampton chose to be transformed into Frankenstein’s Monster, while David Tyrrell chose to become Cthulu. You can check out the results above. This was super fun and I’d LOVE to do something similar in the future. Thanks to all that entered, and yes when I say “entered” I mean did a little advertising for my site. Here’s hoping YOU get “monster-ized” next time!!!

Your Monster King,

-Stephen Vincent

Wow, so I was asked about this commission a looooong time ago. And here it is…a spinning wheel featuring hand painted zombie sheep. Well, this goes to show you I can customize just about anything.  I was definitely scared to do this at one point because I really wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out.  Not the art, but painting on such an odd surface. Odd shape, odd texture, just weird. Well I got together the time and courage to finally take it on and I am SUPER pleased with the outcome. The pictures here do not do it any kind of justice. I wish I could show all of you in person just how wicked this thing really is.  This was all hand painted with acrylics and ink. Thanks to Marj for the challenge!!

WIN THIS PAINTING! So over the last couple of days I have been working on a completely random painting for a contest being held over at bloodsprayer.com . I wanted this to come RIGHT from my imagination. I started with nothing in mind and kind of let my natural instincts kick in. To tell you the truth, the LAST thing I was thinking about was involving a clown zombie in anyway. But in the end I thought the big head needed a big green nose. So there ya go.

But yeah, the piece is entitled “Experiment A: The Odd Couple”. I call it that because one - the whole thing was personally an experiment to me. Two - I see the Monster King side of me thinking that it would be funny to do something like this to his creations. HA, so silly.

SOOOOoo do you want this? Well, my nice new friends over at The Bloodsprayer have a little contest up and running. Find out how to get this one of a kind painting right…over…HERE > http://www.bloodsprayer.com/bloodsprayer-editorials/monsters-of-the-midwest-stephen-vincent-and-monster-king-productions-bring-the-awesome-to-the-gruesome/

“Experiment A: The Odd Couple” was created using acrylics and ink on a 9 X 12 inch canvas.

LATER CREEP-O’S
